The
Group
The Videomakers on line group in Dortmund consists mainly of Students
of the Dortmund-University, who study Applied Literary and Cultural Studies
in combination with Journalism.
3 teams 3 subjects
The Videomakers Dortmund consist of three teams, each dealing with different
subjects for the video-production for the website flashvideo.org. In terms
of the required themes lifestyle and multi-culture,
the main subjects are:
1. the gamer community
2. DJs and music
3. Dortmund as a social and cultural melting pot
Interrelations
"blind spots", "forbidden areas", "sub-cultures",...
The group decided to have a kind of thread, or rather a common base, which
all their videos shall deal with, so that the videos are not isolated
from each other but become interrelated. The idea of what they all have
in common is to focus on the social and cultural blind spots:
forbidden areas public as well as pprivate spaces -, youth sub-culture,
mechanisms of social exclusion and taboos, which are touched by dealing
with different cultures and Nationalities.
Content
The first video deals with the gamer community and was produced
within the scope of the exhibition games.
Computer games by artists. During the exhibition, a LAN party was
organised and some of the videomakers made interviews with gamers and
normal exhibition visitors.
The second topic, DJs and music, will deal with the lively music
scene in Dortmund. In Dortmund you find a quite big scene of rock and
pop musicians as well as the whole field of electronic music. The video
will focus on Dortmunds music-culture and the different ethnic groups
involved. It will question, what kind of music the different DJ communities
are into, which cultural roots they have or adopt and which music styles
they prefer.
The third video, Dortmund as a social and cultural melting pot,
will follow three Kids of different districts and/or nationalities, for
example one from a district, which is mainly populated by Russians or
Turkish immigrants, one from the district around the University, where
most of the foreign students live and one from a typical German middle-class
district. The video will document their daily lives and analyse the different
ways, in which young people make use of the social and cultural infrastructure
and institutions the districts offer to them.
